This website is operated by Overton Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

Overton Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
Some pages may contain content which is not currently compliant, such as:
- PDF files that contained scanned images of printed documents, therefore they contain no semantic markup (e.g. headings, paragraphs) – meaning text will blur when zoomed and will not wrap, requiring extensive use of horizontal and vertical scrolling controls
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Some elements within headings and labels within the site are not accessible. These are invisible elements that are part of our chosen site theme that do not contain public information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.6 Headings and labels describe topic or purpose.
- The Contact Form widget submission button does not enable a text alternative. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 All non-text content that is presented to the user has a text alternative that serves the equivalent purpose. We have included other accessible options, including additional text within the header of the Contact Form that describes its purpose.
- The map within the Contact Form is an image and therefore is not scalable. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 All non-text content that is presented to the user has a text alternative that serves the equivalent purpose. We intend to review alternative maps by January 2026.
- The WAVE accessibility tool does not recognise contrast in the photo gallery overlays. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 The visual presentation of text and images of text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1. We have included other accessible descriptions in the Alternative text.
Disproportionate burden
We have not identified any areas that we believe constitute a disproportionate burden.
Content not within the scope of accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix historic PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We will provide staff training to ensure that all new content added meets accessibility criteria.
